Maurice McGrath, 84, brother of Grand Meadow resident

Maurice Michael "Boomer" McGrath, 84, of Lake City, died Friday, June 20, 2014, at Deercrest in Red Wing.
He was born Nov. 25, 1929, in Hammond, to Thomas and Agnes (Wagner) McGrath. He grew up in the rural Plainview and Millville areas.
On Sept. 21, 1955, he was united in marriage to Shirley Hippie in Plainview. They later divorced.
He worked doing construction in the Lake City area for many years.
He later married Bev Smith in May 1993 in Petersburg, Ind. The couple lived there until moving back to Lake City in 2002. His wife died in 2005.
He enjoyed camping, reading and continued to do construction even after he retired. He was a member of the Lake City VFW Post #8729.
He is survived by his two daughters, Cynthia McGrath and Cheryl Key, both of Lake City; son, Tom (Pat) McGrath of Orlando, Fla.; three grandchildren, Nikki, Ryder (Kristen) and Cody McGrath; great-granddaughter, Kylee McGrath; four sisters, Margaret (Curt) Henry of St. Charles, Mary (Frank) Olson of Plainview, Irene Marshman of Plainview and Catherine Kerrins of Grand Meadow; sister-in-law, Oma McGrath of Petersburg, Ind.; and his lifelong friend, Shirley McGrath of Lake City.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bev and four brothers, Jerauld, LaVerne, Peter and Pat McGrath.
A celebration of life was held Thursday, June 26, at the Lake City VFW Post #8729.
