Robert (Bob) Meyerhofer Sr., 60, of Grand Meadow, died Friday, March 28, 2014, of an apparent heart attack at the emergency room at Mayo Clinic - Saint Marys Campus in Rochester.

He was born on March 21, 1954, in Osage, Iowa, to Leverne and Mary (VanHooser) Meyerhofer.

He moved with his family as a young child to rural Stewartville where he grew up on the family farm.

He attended Stewartville schools, graduating from Stewartville High School in 1972. He completed the welding course at Rochester Vocational-Technical School, becoming certified later and then going to work at Briese Iron in Rochester.

On Dec. 16, 1977 at St. John's Catholic Church in Rochester, he married his best friend and the love of his life, Dawn L. Faughn. Following their marriage the couple moved to Blooming Prairie where they made their home for many years while raising four wonderful children.

He was a lifelong master welder and fabricator. He held a multitude of positions and encountered many different people, all of whom have been influenced by the great man he was.

He was employed for over 20 years at Metal Services in Blooming Prairie and was well known in many communities where he excelled at on-site specialty welding and projects. Most recently he was employed with Meyerhofer Steel and Construction in Grand Meadow where he worked with three of his nephews sharing his skills and talents and, of course, his sarcastic ways.

He enjoyed discovering that "rare" find in the ditch or negotiating a deal at a garage sale, because "someone else's trash was his treasure!" He was known for his quick wit and great work ethic. He had a great sense of pride in everything he did, including his kids and grandkids and a deep love and adoration of his wife. He was previously a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Stewartville and St. Columbanus Catholic Church in Blooming Prairie.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Dawn; four children and their spouses, Melissa (Craig) Schammel of Blooming Prairie, Margo (Rob) White of Sanford, N.C., Monica (Troy) Anderson of Blooming Prairie and Bobby Meyerhofer Jr. (Misty Glasco) of Traphill, N.C.; 12 grandchildren, Lauren, Lucas and Lily Schammel, Zach, Emmaleigh and Ian White, Olivia, Tyler, Gracelyn and Nora Anderson, Molly and June Meyerhofer; his father, Leverne Meyerhofer of Stewartville; siblings, Richard (Becky) Meyerhofer of Zumbrota, Pam Winkels of Rochester, Kenny (Cindy) Meyerhofer of rural Stewartville, Gary (Wendy) Meyerhofer and Brian (Tammy) Meyerhofer both of rural Racine and father and mother -in-law, Donald and Jan Stringer of Kingston, Okla.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary and his grandparents.

The Mass of Christian Burial for him was held Wednesday, April 2, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Stewartville with the Rev. John Wilmot officiating.

A private family burial and committal service will take place at St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery in Stewartville at a later date.
