Roger A. Newkirk, 73, of Grand Meadow, died Saturday Nov. 16, 2013, at the Grand Meadow Health Care Center.

He was born March 11, 1940, in Dexter to Edwin and Dorthea (Salisbury) Newkirk and attended the Elkton School, graduating in 1958. He was a self-employed flooring installer working in several area communities. He was a past president of the Grand Meadow Lions Club, a retired member of the Grand Meadow Volunteer Fire Department and served as a member of the Mower County Sheriffs Posse. He was also a member of the United Church of Grand Meadow serving on the building committee and was a dedicated volunteer for the Meadow Fest chicken fry.

He is survived by his children, Todd Newkirk of Grand Meadow, and Kari (Terry) Eischens of Taopi; five grandchildren, Dustin Newkirk, Joshua Eischens, Jennie (Jesse) Crews, Jason Newkirk and Jill Eischens; three great-grandchildren; a longtime special friend, Donna; three sisters, Maggie Boe of LeRoy, Sharon (Arthur) Osmondson and Pat Leonard, both of Adams, and a brother, Ronald (Lori) Newkirk of Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial service was held Tuesday, Nov. 19, at the United Church in Grand Meadow with the Rev. Karen Ashton officiating. Burial was in the Grand Meadow Cemetery.

Hindt Funeral Home in Grand Meadow was in charge of arrangements.
