Walter Rendahl, 95, of Ostrander

Walter Eugene Rendahl, 95, of Ostrander, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at the Ostrander Care and Rehab.
He was born to Louis and Carrie (Amdahl) Rendahl on Dec. 17, 1918, on the family farm near Ostrander.
He attended Sample School about half a mile from the farm. He then finished his education by graduating from LeRoy High School in LeRoy. After high school, he went onto school at Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa, graduating with a business major.
He worked at the State Bank in LeRoy before going into the service. He entered the army in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1945.
While in the service he met his true love, Mayme Elizabeth Pitts, from Hazelhurst, Miss. They married and moved back to Minnesota. To this union was born one daughter, Karen Louise.
In Ostrander, he and his brother, Vernon, owned and operated Ostrander Livestock and Produce. After that, the brothers went into farming together, which was called Rendahl Farms.
Farming most of his life, he loved his family, church and going fishing with his brothers and friends to Canada, which they did for years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, on the church council and belonged to the Legion in Ostrander for over 60 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen Start of Ostrander; four grandchildren, Stephanie Start of Ostrander, Jim Start of Rochester, Kari (Jake Hovland) Start of Mona, Iowa, and DJ (Tammy) Start of Ostrander; seven great-grandchildren, Lauren Servick, Leah Servick, Emily Servick, Cole Start, Carter Start, Dylan Start and Hartlinn Hovland; siblings, Arlene (Wilbur) Radach of Deerwood, Minn., and Leo (Ardis) Rendahl of Brownsdale and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mayme and two brothers, Ray and Vernon.
Funeral services for him were held on Wednesday, Feb. 5, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ostrander, with the Rev. Herman Bakker officiating. Burial will follow in Ostrander Cemetery at a later date.
