Do you doubt Linus' Great Pumpkin?
Never fear, the Kiwanis are here!
"The Kiwanis are hosting the annual Halloween party at the Spring Valley Community Center next Wednesday, Oct. 31, from 5 to 7 p.m., and children can play games, win prizes, receive a candy bag and tour the Key Club haunted house," said Spring Valley Kiwanian Jay Webster, who enjoys overseeing games and handing out treats for pre-kindergarteners through middle school children at the party which is sponsored by the Kiwanis, the Spring Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Kingsland Key Club.
Webster shared, "There are prizes awarded for the games and a candy bag given to each child for participating in the Halloween party. It's a great event to sponsor and provide Halloween fun for the children of the area - it's a safe place for the kids to have fun and enjoy the entertainment on Halloween night. Plus, it follows the Kiwanis mission in 'Serving the Children of the World.' We especially enjoy the creative costumes and the kids' smiles."
The Kiwanis community services committee starts to make preparations for this event in early September to make the Halloween party such a yearly success. Webster noted that last year a basketball game was added to the selection of games to be played.
For more Halloween fun, the Spring Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) will make children glow as they once again put reflective green stickers on trick-or-treaters as part of the "Lite A Tyke" program.
Webster invites parents to take advantage of the evening's festivities, saying, "Stop by to enjoy the many costumes and relax while your children are entertained by the various games and haunted house."
Webster reminded children - or goblins and princesses - not to forget the most important thing of the evening (after the prizes, of course). "Don't forget to receive your treat bag before you leave the Spring Valley Community Center. See you on Halloween night!"
