The Spring Valley City Council met during a special meeting on Monday, Aug. 19, after its regularly scheduled meeting on Aug. 12 was cancelled for the first time in at least 15 years due to lack of quorum.

Only two items of business were discussed during the short meeting: The approval of the August preliminary accounts payable and the Small Cities Block Grant documents.

The August accounts payable was approved unanimously.

The council also approved the 2013 Small Cities Development Program funding agreement and contract between the State of Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) and the City of Spring Valley.

This included the contract for Michelle Vrieze, a consultant with Community and Economic Development Associates (CEDA), who will be working with the city to implement the Small Cities Block Grant.

The next council meeting will be Aug. 26 at 6 p.m.
