Kurt Bill found a new place to cut a rug.
"I have stores in LeRoy and Osage, Iowa, and I'd like to bring a new market to Spring Valley, because this is a new area on the edge that I always wanted to bring service to," said Ostrander resident and Classic Carpet & Interiors owner Bill, who opened his third Classic Carpet store in Spring Valley this past Monday, June 3, inside Valley Home Improvement.
Bill outlined the services and products his company offers, including all flooring - carpet, tile, vinyl, hardwoods, luxury vinyls, and laminates. The company also steam cleans carpets, does window treatments, refinishes hardwoods and does custom tile showers.
"I think we'll bring a higher standard of professionalism to the area with our trained, certified installers," he said. "These are people who have worked together for more than three years. We strive to be a more professional flooring store than the competition."
Bill bought the well-established, 20-year-old LeRoy Classic Carpet & Interiors store from the original owner approximately seven years ago, opened a store in Osage three years ago, and has been hoping to find a home for a third location in Spring Valley for the past several years.
"I've always been interested, but the opportunity wasn't there until recently," he stated, noting that Spring Valley's flooring needs were filled by Owatonna-based Flooring Frenzy, also inside Valley Home Improvement, up until two years ago.
"I've been installing carpet for the past 17 years," he noted. "I've done concrete work, construction management college, carpentry, farming...since I grew up in a farming community, and at the age of 20, I started doing flooring, and I haven't quit since. It's a very prideful job, and it's fun to meet all the customers."
Now that he has a partition built between his store and Valley Home Improvement, and also installed a separate entrance to delineate that it is a unique store within the home improvement store, he'd like to encourage customers to take advantage of Classic Carpet's location.
"I would like to think that we will work with Valley Home Improvement. We are a completely separate store, but it's all your construction needs contained in one building." Bill has 10 employees, including two part-time employees and Spring Valley store manager Linda Hendrickson, ready to serve those who'd like to replace their worn carpeting, refinish their hardwood floors or have a tile shower installed. He related, "On average, we're always busy, and that's a good thing."
For now, he'd like to "get into town, get settled, get into the community and gain people's trust for their new flooring," welcoming visitors to peruse the displays of tile, hardwood and a new rug for their homes inside his store.
Classic Carpet, located inside Valley Home Improvement at 1020 Industrial Drive, Suite 2, Spring Valley, is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays by appointment. For more information, call (507) 346-1995.
