The Spring Valley Growers Market got off to a cool start two days after a record May snowfall, but the market will be a fixture in Spring Valley all summer long on Saturdays until the snow flies this fall.

"Our vendors were on site on Saturday, May 4. It was cold and muddy, and the snow piles still remained, but they showed their resilient nature as they set up as close to the market sign as they could, and they were open for business," said Spring Valley Grower's Market organizer Barb Smith, speaking of the vendors that offer their locally grown produce to area residents.

The market is now open every Saturday until the first snows of October, and Smith is excited to welcome customers to the local stand. She outlined the products that may be available at the market this year as included in the market vendors' application, noting, "we allow people to sell fruits, vegetables, nuts, herbs, flowers, bedding and house plants, trees, shrubs, handmade soaps, eggs, honey, syrups, jams and jellies, baked goods made from scratch, and canned goods and meats that are prepared according to federal and state laws. We also have room for resident hobbyists who make homemade jewelry or furniture. All products we sell at the market must be grown, raised or produced on property vendors own or rent within a 35-mile radius of Spring Valley, and new this year, we have maple syrup and homemade body soap and bath spa items."

Smith hopes that residents of the Spring Valley area will take advantage of the wealth that springs from Spring Valley area soil. "I've been buying from the market, and it's so nice to buy from people I know. Come visit your local farmer's market, support your local growers and farmers, and enjoy fresh farm eggs, home-baked items and much more. See you at the market."

The Spring Valley Grower's Market is open for business Saturdays, May through October, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the market lot north of Grafix on the Go, on Highway 63, across from the Spring Valley Public Utilities plant.
