Spring Valley Public Library director Dianne Sikkink welcomed the library's board of trustees last Thursday, April 10, to the final meeting she attended as the library director since she will retire on April 30. There was plenty of business to cover on the agenda, with business authorization transfers to be made, amendments to job descriptions, committee updates and reports on upcoming library events.

The board's first new business item encompassed making minor changes to the library director's job description, after which members authorized board member Sarah Reiland to have her name placed on the library's contingency fund account to handle purchases in the time between Sikkink's departure and the new library director's arrival.

Sikkink gave her monthly report, beginning with thanking Wykoff area resident Wenda Grabau for creating a personalized banner to mark the launch of the new Enterprise patron catalog system. She went on to note that Mediacom had toured the library on March 17 and that the library will be purchasing Internet services from Mediacom as of July, that library assistant and cataloger Klarissa Schoppers has completed her six-month probationary period and has done an excellent job, and announced that the library is pleased to welcome Spring Valley veteran and author Paul Ness, who has written a book entitled "Reflections of a WWII Navy Sonarman," for a book signing on April 24 from 7 to 8 p.m. in the fireplace reading room.

Sikkink extended her appreciation and condolences to the family and friends of Linda (Ramaker) Olson for memorials given in Olson's name, as they came from "friends and family of Linda Olson," from Nathan Sikkink, Scott and Kelly Reiland, Kindra Ramaker, Jeanette Baker, Mr. and Mrs. Reagan Miller, Geraldine and Harris Williams, Mike and Sonya Bubany, Timothy and Susan Gossman, Eldena Seabright, Shirley Gangstad, Carla Barr, Jerry Rollie and Marlene Rollie, Mr. and Mrs. Vince Mangan, Larry and Mary Grems, Jeff Reiland, Lyle and Bonnie Kruegel, Matt and Sarah Reiland, Bev and Leonard Plaehn, and Kevin and Kathryn Kuisle. Also from Claire Churchill, Keith and Kathy Churchill, Connie Churchill, Jack and Lori Churchill, Joe and Barb Churchill, Jeff and Sue Churchill and Hjordi Churchill.

Before adjourning, the library board thanked Sikkink for her seven years of service to the library and the community, expressing gratitude for a job well done.
