Local Girl Scout Troop 40318 is holding a children's book drive though May 17 to promote reading to youth.

The girls currently have tables set up at the Spring Valley locations of Alco and Dollar General.

The troop is encouraging people to purchase books at local stores and place them in the box atop the table.

All books will be donated to the library, local clinics and day cares.

The girls will also be participating in the Spring Valley city-wide garage sales this year, at 615 South Broadway, as they work to earn money for a trip to Savannah, Ga., the home of Juliet Lowe the founder of the Girl Scouts.
