A planning meeting for downtown revitalization will be held on Wednesday, May 8, at the Spring Valley Public Library at 3 p.m.

The project has been spearheaded by the Spring Valley Economic Development Authority and economic development director Cathy Enerson. The city has applied for a small cities block grant to help with funding.

Theresa McCormack and Tom Erickson from the Urban Studio will present their latest version a booklet that provides a combination of existing conditions of downtown Spring Valley and recommendations for improvements.

The recommendations are based on input from previous meetings. It will include ideas to make Broadway Avenue more appealing as well as suggestions for improving the looks behind downtown buildings.

As presented at the last meeting, the goals are to retain the historic quality of downtown, bring vibrancy to Broadway Avenue and restore existing buildings.

A healthy town provides a central place to shop, eat and spending time with family and friends.

The meeting is open to anyone interested in the future of downtown, particularly those that own or rent downtown buildings.
