A motorcyclist is in critical condition following an accident Sunday, April 8, at 3:23 p.m. on Minnesota 16 east of Grand Meadow.
A Pontiac Vibe driven by Daniel Hahn, 28, of Charles City, Iowa, was traveling west on Minnesota 16 when the driver was attempting to make a left turn onto Mower County Road 14, but pulled to the shoulder as it yielded to a fire department vehicle with its emergency lights on. The Pontiac was struck in the rear by Carl Underwood, 42, of Waseca, Minn., who was driving a Harley Davidson motorcycle going in the same direction, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Hahn and a passenger in his vehicle had no apparent injuries at the scene. Underwood was taken to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester and is listed in critical condition.
At the time of the accident, Grand Meadow firefighters were responding to a fire off of Mower Fillmore Road near Deer Creek. Spring Valley Fire Department was first on the scene. See related story for details on the fire.
