The Spring Valley Sportsmen's Club will be celebrating 50 years worth of smelt feeds on Friday, April 25, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
In honor of the momentous occasion the club will be raffling off over 75 raffle prizes to be drawn once the feed portion of the night commences, which is usually around 7:30.
"There are prizes for everyone from young to old," said member Pete Kofoot.
They are also giving away free memberships to every 50th person through the door that night.
This year the feed will be raising money to build a new pavilion for the club's property.
The Sportsmen's Club members begin preparation for the feed at 10 a.m.; mixing together their goodies with secret recipes that keep people flocking to the fundraiser from across southeast Minnesota and northern Iowa.
The well-loved Spring Valley tradition is one of a dying breed, as many communities no longer offer smelt feeds.
"It's really one of the only ones still around. You used to hear about them a lot more but now this is about it, so that makes it pretty unique," Kofoot said.
Luckily for smelt feed devotees, Kofoot says the Spring Valley smelt feed should be around for much longer than its already impressive 50 years, thanks to the club's younger generation.
