The main order of business during a brief Spring Valley City Council meeting Monday, July 8, was to review and approve one of three bids for a new concrete section of the bike path.

The bids were received from Koball's Poured Walls, Inc., Legends Concrete, Inc. and Construction Materials, Inc. The bids included 800 square feet on the north side of the bridge and 2,095 square feet on the south side.

Koball's Poured Wall, Inc.'s bid of $11,190 was approved by the council, but is contingent on making sure the project is completed by Aug. 12, as this part of the trail will be used for the Ag Day's 6k event, which will be held Aug. 17.

In other business:

• Council member Todd Jones asked the council to review adding a concession stand to South Park, since Bill Johnson is not selling his concessions anymore. City Administrator Deb Zimmer advised that the new garage was built with a concession stand as part of the plans, though water would need to be brought in to the building. The council agreed this would be further reviewed after more research is done on cost.

• David Wetter addressed the council about the pending annexation of his land from Spring Valley Township to the city of Spring Valley. He raised questions about the approval of livestock on this land, as he has horses, and the costs entailed in the process. This will be further reviewed at the next council meeting.

The next council meeting will be Monday, July 29, at 6 p.m.
