After a number of years of flat or declining budgets, the Minnesota Legislature has increased funding for the Minnesota Historical Society's operating budget, which supports the Minnesota History Center and Gale Family Library, 26 historic sites and museums, care of collections and general operations, educational outreach and other activities.
As a result, the Society is improving access to historic resources by adding hours at six historic sites around the state and new and expanded services at the Gale Family Library at the Minnesota History Center, beginning fall 2013.
The new hours will affect Historic Forestville by providing additional Saturday hours in the spring and fall. The site will be open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in September and October this fall and will open on Saturdays in May. Historic Forestville will close for this season on Saturday, Oct. 26.
"The new state budget affirms that history matters to Minnesotans," said Steve Elliott, director and CEO.
The Minnesota Historical Society is a non-profit educational and cultural institution established in 1849. The Society collects, preserves and tells the story of Minnesota's past through museum exhibits, libraries and collections, historic sites, educational programs and book publishing. Using the power of history to transform lives, the Society preserves our past, shares our state's stories and connects people with history.
