"It was picture perfect weather for our home meet," said coach Amber Uhlenhake about the Kingsland Invitational last Tuesday at Root River Country Club.

"The athletes really stepped up well tonight despite the distractions of homecoming week," she said about the Kingsland cross-country team.

"We had solid races on all fronts, still with some rough points to work on, but definitely moving in the right direction. Erica (Earley) and Melinda (Woods) led the way for the girls, as did Hunter (Meisner) and Zach (Buchholtz) for the boys. We are starting to move towards the latter half of the season already, so we'll have a bit of fine tuning to do that (the end of the season) hits.

"Overall, it was a great meet and we especially want to thank everybody who gave up their time to help in any capacity...course guides, finish-shoot workers, cart drivers, etc. Everybody helped so well, and the parents, too. We are so appreciative of the work to help us run the home invite," concluded Uhlenhake.

In the boys varsity meet, sophomore Meisner ran the 5,000 meters in 19:46.6 and finished 30th overall. His team finish was 24th. Running second for the Knights was freshman Buchholtz (38th, 20:23.1, 29th team). Junior Dane Gillespie came in third for Kingsland (41st, 20:31.4). Also running for the varsity were Michael Willford (21:28.3), Adam Buchholtz (21:51.1), Thomas Mettler (23:05.1) and Scott Lechner (23:43.9).

Running for the JV were Alex Campbell (25:31) and James Hayes-Hall (26:39.6).

Ninth grader Earley (16:45.1) had a top-10 finish at 10th for the Lady Knights. Woods was Kingsland's second runner at 36th (18:56.4) and freshman Andrea Mettler was third for the Knights (19:16.9, 39th). Also running in the 4,000-meter varsity race were Jocelyn Voeltz (19:27.2, 43rd), Marina Schwanke (45th, 19:47.6), Jamie Thompson (21:41.6, 65th) and Gretchen Corson (23:22.9, 72nd).

Renee Lechner (13:59.2, 14th), Audrey Farlinger (15thm 14:03.3) and Kendall Drury-Deboer (17th, 15:17.1) ran in the 2,500m junior high race for the girls and Logan O'Connell (32nd, 12:49.8) ran in the junior high boys race.
