"To see kids who just two months ago could barely finish a 30 minute run, much less a three mile race, cruise over the course like this is phenomenal; a true testament to the workouts they've been putting in," said a very enthusiastic Kingsland cross-country coach, Amber Uhlenhake, after the Plainview-Elgin-Millville meet Tuesday.

"Richard (Swanson, 16:36.7) continued his great racing, with a season best second place of 16:36, behind the home meet favorite from PEM, Pat Reinschmidt. Ryan (Swanson, 18:13.5) brought his time back down to where we needed it, Dane (Gillespie, 19:52.3) ran a great race, and Tyler (Kaster, 20:25.7) and Zachary (Buchholtz, 20:33.6) ran smart races," she said. "And, once again, Adam Buchholtz (22:39.8) came through with a surprise finish, hitting yet another major season best."

Tomm Mettler (23:12.5) also ran in the varsity meet. James Hayes-Hall (26:30.9) ran in the JV race and Logan O'Connell (15:22.1, 3200m) competed in the junior high race.

"On the girl's side, Erica (Earley) ran, probably, the best race of the night, across the team," said Uhlenhake. "She went out smart, fought for places right up to the finish 'shoot', and hit a new season best time of 16:27.2, good for ninth."

Other finishers for the Lady Knights were Melina Woods (19:30) and Jamie Thompson (21:45.5). Jocelyn Voeltz (15:43.3, 3200m) ran in the junior high meet for Kingsland.

"We have one week to keep everyone up and healthy for conference, and then we will begin to taper in time for the section meet. Looking ahead, we've got a bit of fine tuning to do before we crack the state meet, which is a continuous season goal to get some qualifiers in," concluded Uhlenhake.

Tuesday was scheduled for the conference meet at Eyota, and next Thursday, Oct. 25, is the section meet at Northern Hills, Rochester.

CC notes....Pat Reinschmidt, PEM, is currently ranked ninth in the state, Class A. Emi Trost, Cannon Falls won the PEM/Jodi Rahman Invitational, and is currently ranked third in the state. Kayla Woltz, Chatfield, was second at PEM, and is currently ranked seventh in the state. Ahna Buntrock (Dover-Eyota) finished third at PEM, and is currently listed on the HM (honorable mention) list for the state. Quite a field that the Kingsland runners ran against!
