"Not only did we have one of the biggest cross-country teams in recent school history, we had a very young, and very capable team," said Kingsland coach Amber Uhlenhake. "Our senior leaders this year, Jamie Thompson, Melinda Woods, Alex Campbell and manager Karli Bly, were excellent role models and leaders. Jamie Thompson and Melinda Woods were recognized as our outgoing captains, along with returning boys captain Dane Gillespie."

Voted by their fellow athletes are next year's captains: Dane Gillespie, Hunter Meisner, Erica Earley and Jocelyn Voeltz.

Receiving special awards, also voted on by the team members, at the season-ending banquet were: Hunter Meisner (male MVP), Erica Earley (female MVP), Scott Lechner (Most Improved) and Zach Buchholtz (Knight Award).

"Several of these awards were so close in votes, it speaks volumes to not only how close the team was, but also how much respect they had for each other. Almost all 20 athletes and their families attended to recap a great season. The talent and potential we have on hand for the years to come, if the willingness to work is there, is spectacular to see for the program," concluded Uhlenhake.
