Earley, Gillespie lead Kingsland runners at 'hot' meet

Earica Earley was the first Kingsland girl across the finish line in 32nd place with a time of 13:56.3 and Dane Gillespie was the first guy in, finishing 65th in 12:09.7 at the shortened, 3200-meter Stewartville Invitational Cross Country Meet last Thursday.

"It was a hot night for a meet," said coach Amber Uhlenhake, "and even our top runners struggled in the heat. We're a young group, but there is definitely a lot of potential in the group."
Other gals running in the varsity meet were Melinda Woods (15:02.7, 59th) and Jamie Thompson (19:06.1). A total of 115 girls ran in the varsity race.
There were runners from 24 programs and many more cooperating schools at the meet, an all-day event held at Bear Creek Cave Park.
JV runners were Jocelyn Voeltz (15:47.3, 13th), Andrea Mettler (15th, 16:02.0) and Marina Schwanke (16:59.9, 27th). Kendall Drury-Deboer (7.53.4), Renee Lechner (8:01.3) and Audrey Farlinger (8:24.6) competed in the 1600-meter junior high race.
Zachary Buchholtz (13:09), Adam Buchholtz (13:50) and Thomas Mettler (14:24) also competed in the varsity boys meet.
Kingsland competed as a team in the JV meet, finishing sixth. Runners were Hunter Meisner (fourth, 12:38.4), Michael Willford (13:43.5, 24th), Scott Lechner (15:01), Logan O'Connell (17:07), James Hayes-Hall (17:21) and Alex Campbell (17:56). The JV boys also ran 3200 meters.
