Courtney Schmidt had the only hit for the gals, a two-out single in the third inning. Following her hit, she stole second and reached third on a wild pitch, but was stranded there when the inning ended. Jamie Stevens had a sacrifice bunt in the second inning, advancing Brittany Erding to second base. Erding reached base with a walk. Kailynn Hamersma was the only other base runner for GMLOK, reaching base on a walk in the third inning.
Defensively, the team did a very good job behind the pitching of Jamie Stevens and Alayna Meskill. The gals only had one error in the shortened game.
On the mound, Jamie Stevens started the game and went the first four innings. She gave up six hits, two walks and struck out one. Alayna Meskill pitched the last inning, giving up five hits, three walks and also striking out one. Meskill pitched in the sixth inning, but GMLOK didn't record any outs, so officially the pitchers combined for five innings of duty.
Jamie Stevens was named the KFIL Player of the Game for the Bulldogs.
Spring Grove/Caledonia beat Dover-Eyota, 3-1, in the semifinals, and will now play in the subsection championship game. The other three games of the AA tournament were postponed until Thursday, May 23, because of rain.
In the 1A East subsection, Wabasha-Kellogg (No. 4) upset Chatfield (No. 1) and will play Lewiston-Altura (No. 7) for the subsection crown. L-A upset No. 2 Fillmore Central/Lanesboro and No. 3 Houston.
