Gals split two games; Playoffs start Thursday

Last week the Kingsland Lady Knights split a pair of Three Rivers Conference games, beating Wabasha-Kellogg 53-32, and losing to Dover-Eyota, 64-52.

In the win over Wabasha-Kellogg, "Haley Colton was on fire," said coach Jill Thalmann. Colton led the team in scoring with 14, hitting four of four from three-point range. Lizzie Tart was also in double-figures with 12, hitting four of five from the field and four of four at the line.
Joclyn Pierce had a fine all-around game with eight points, four rebounds and three steals. "When Joclyn goes up strong, there aren't many people who can stop her," said Thalmann
Statistically, 10 different girls scored, 12 different girls pulled down at least one rebound, 12 different girls had steals and six different girls dished out assists. Rebound leaders were Cheyenne Losey, Jessi Kaster and Lizzie Tart, each with five. Tart and Sarah O'Connell led the team with four steals each, and Losey and Colton topped the charts with four assists each.
Kingsland led at halftime, 23-6.

Marissa Bornholdt had a team high 16 points against Dover-Eyota, hitting seven of 12 shots from the field. Cheyenne Losey cashed in for 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Haley Colton dished out eight assists, along with six points and three rebounds. Lizzie Tart had a double (not a double-double), eight points and eight rebounds, as did Jessi Kaster, six points and six rebounds. Kaster also had four assists.

The gals played their last regular season game this past Tuesday against Plainview-Elgin-Millville.
The Kingsland girls got the No. 4 seed, and will host Rochester Lourdes (No. 5) in the first round of the 1AA-West sub-section playoffs Thursday night. The semi-finals will be Tuesday, Feb. 26, with the winner playing the winner of the Dover-Eyota (No. 1 seed) vs. Cannon Falls (No. 8 seed) at Mayo Arena and the sub-section finals will be Saturday, March 2, at Mayo Auditorium.
In the other bracket, Pine Island is the No. 2 seed and Lake City is the No. 3 seed. In the west bracket, Chatfield is the No. 1 seed, Caledonia is the No. 2 seed and Plainview-Elgin-Millville is the No. 3 seed. All three are Three Rivers Conference teams.
