Kingsland golfer Karli Bly earned a spot in the state meet last Tuesday at the Section 1A meet held at Eastwood Golf Course in Rochester. Her round of 87 on the 18-hole course put her in third place out of 28 competitors, claiming one of the five slots to be filled for the individual state tournament.

Bly began play on the back nine of the par-70 course and came into the clubhouse with a 44, which was only three strokes behind the leaders at the turn. On the front nine she shaved a stroke off of her score on the back nine, shooting a 43. The 43 she shot on the front nine is impressive enough by itself, but is even more so considering the fact that she took a triple bogey on the par-three fifth (14th) hole after losing a ball and being forced to take a penalty. After overcoming that adversity, she settled back in and completed her round with a par, bogey finish on the last two holes.
"This section is a very difficult section to qualify at and it takes almost a flawless round of golf to get it done," said Kingsland coach Brent Kohn. "I feel that Karli shot the best two rounds [today] that she has shot all year."
Bly has had an excellent spring on the links, as she led the Three Rivers Conference in scoring for the second consecutive year and was also named to both the all-conference academic team and the Three Rivers south division all-conference team.
The Knights' only other all-conference team member this year was Simon Broadwater, who led the boys' team in scoring in nearly every meet they participated in.
Bly will get a look at the state meet course, Sand Creek Country Club in Becker, Minn., in a practice round on Monday June 9, before competition begins on Tuesday. She will golf 36 holes in all during the two day meet that ends on Wednesday.
