Jackie Whitacre is now the head coach for the Kingsland volleyball team, which begins the season this week.
Last year the Knights were 2-8 in Three Rivers Conference action, 11-16 during the regular season and 12-17, overall. The team played 89 sets (games) in their 29 matches.
Returning to the team this year, and the number of sets played are seniors Rialie Fenske (54), Taylor Link (25), Haley Colton (73), Kailynn Hamersma (14), Brianna Musel (77) and Gina Blanchard (6) and junior Megan Back (5). Musel has three years of varsity experience.
Other members of this year's team, as listed on the Minnesota State High School League website are Carly Thompson (junior) Alayna Meskill (freshman), Hannah Pruter (junior), Rachel Harder (junior) and Reann Kimball (sophomore). Eleven players graduated from last year's team.
"We are a shorter team at the net this year and will focus on digging and improving our hitting placement over the net," said Whitacre. "Serving is strong and consistent, one of our best assets. Teams in our conference that are strong are Wabasha-Kellogg, Caledonia and Fillmore Central."
Kingsland opened the season on Tuesday, Aug. 27, at home against Stewartville. The Lady Knights also have a home Three Rivers Conference match Thursday night against Lewiston-Altura.
