GMLOK's Lucas Roe, center, with his first place medal, after he won the 160 lb. weight class at the FCLMC Holiday Tournament this past Saturday. Also shown are, at left, Nathan Suhr, Decorah, third, and Sam McPhail, Pine Island, second.
Lucas Roe is ranked No. 2 at 160 lbs. in Class AA, and the Grand Meadow/LeRoy-Ostrander/Kingsland wrestler proved it last Saturday with a first place finish at the annual Fillmore Central/Lanesboro/Mabel-Canton Holiday Wrestling Tournament in Harmony.
On his way to the championship, Roe got wins over Chris Wisted (Winona, TF 17-2), Nathan Suhr (Decorah, 11-4) and Sam McPhail (Pine Island, 3-0). With the three wins at Harmony, Roe is now 9-1 for the season.
Wyatt Richardson, GMLOK's 182 pounder, took third at the holiday tournament. Richardson got a pin over Sam Fryer (Chatfield, 1:33) in the first round, lost a 3-2 decision to Monty Holm (FCLMC) in the semifinals and then beat Bradley Schultz (PEM, 4-1) for the bronze medal. GMLOK's Parker Hale (145 lbs.) took fourth place, winning in the first round over Jake Timm (Winona, 4:34), then losing his next two matches to Thomas Miller (PEM, 4-15) and Adam Pleschcourt (Pine Island, 0-8). Richardson is currently 5-4 on the season and Hale has a 1-2 record.
Also competing for the Bulldogs were Jace Bunne (132 lbs., 2-2), Blake Olson (138 lbs., 2-2) and Sam Roe (152 lbs., 1-2). Both of Bunne's wins were pins, and he is now 4-4 on the season. Olson also got two pins and is now 5-6 on the season. Roe's win was a fall and is now 2-5 on the season.
Friday night GMLOK hosts Chatfield, at Grand Meadow, for a TRC match.
In the JV tournament at Caledonia first place medals went to Bren Olson, Blake Benson and Brandon Turner. Finishing second were Stephen Kassel, Travis Anway, Jacob Oehlke and Josh Graves. John Barber took third place.
