Tuesday, July 10, 2012 9:51 AM
Registration is now open for the annual five-kilometer run and two-mile walk during Ag Days in Spring Valley on Saturday, Aug. 18.
Bill Mettler and Hunter Meisner sprint to the finish line in the 2011 Ag Days 5k race.
The run will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18, and the walk will begin at 8:45 a.m. at Spring Creek Park, which is located one block southwest of downtown. The events were moved up 30 minutes last year so as not to conflict with the soapbox derby.
Registration for both events are now open with online registration possible on the Chamber of Commerce website at www.springvalleychamberofcommerce.com. Click on the Ag Days schedule and then look for the quick link to the Ag Days 5k. Forms may also be picked up at the Spring Valley Tribune office or City Hall. Race day registration begins at 7:30 a.m.
The price for the 5k race is $18 this year until Aug. 7 and $20 after that date. Also, late registrants may not receive a T-shirt on race day, but they will be available later.
The walk is free. T-shirts may be available for $10 if participants request one.
Trophies will be awarded to the overall male and female winners in the 5K race as well as for the top three in age groups. Runners will also get T-shirts.
The run will head up Washington Avenue from the park north to Grant Street and then wind back into the park before going south on Washington Avenue past the south park and then west on Sample Road to Territorial before finishing in Spring Creek Park. The route will include paved roads, a half-mile of gravel road and portions of the in-town trail system.
The walk will use the same ending route as the run, starting out on Washington Avenue by Spring Creek Park.
For more information on either event, contact Dave Phillips at (507) 346-7365. Brian Hoff is the race day director.
