"It was a bit cold, we even had some flurries, but the girls turned on the heat and, across the board, had fantastic races. Six of seven ran a season best time," said Kingsland cross-country coach Amber Uhlenhake about the section meet last week in Rochester.
Andrea Mettler finished the season strong for the Knights. She was the second Kingsland girl across the finish line Thursday at section. CHRISTINE VREEMAN/SPRING VALLEY TRIBUNE
"On the guys side, everyone ran close to their season best times. We coaches couldn't have asked for a better season. These kids were so easy to work with and we can't wait to have them all on board again. What an overall fantastic group," said Uhlenhake.
"Our senior girls ran with heart," stated Uhlenhake, "as it was their last race and they ended with their season best times." Finishing their high school cross-country careers for Kingsland were Melinda Woods and Jamie Thompson.
As they have done pretty much all year, top finisher for the gals was Erica Earley (49th, 17:25.0) and top guy was Hunter Meisner (86th, 19:59.3). As a team, the girls were 16th (22 total) and the boys were 19th (22 total). Dover-Eyota won the girls and Plainview-Elgin-Millville won the girls.
Emi Trost, Cannon Falls, won the individual title for the gals, and Ian Torchia, Rochester Lourdes, was the boys champion. Trost is the No. 1 ranked runner in the state, and Torchia is ranked No. 2.
