Softball team finishes regular season 3-16, 1-14

Last Monday the GMLOK softball team traveled to Caledonia to take on the Spring Grove/Caledonia team in the first round of the 1AA East sub-section tournament. A win for the gals would put them into the sub-section semi-finals on Wednesday, and the double-elimination portion of the tournament. A loss on Monday and the team's season would be over.

This past week the gals lost four ballgames, dropping their overall record to 3-16, 1-14 in the Three Rivers-South. Last Tuesday they lost to St. Charles (13-5) and Dover-Eyota (4-2) and on Thursday they dropped a twin-bill to Fillmore Central/Lanesboro, 8-1 and 8-4.
Against St. Charles, Haley Colton had a very productive game, going two-for-two at the plate, with an RBI, two runs scored and four stolen bases. Brittany Erding made the best of her hit, driving in two runs and getting one stolen base. Courtney Schmidt went two-for-four with a run scored. Also getting hits were Kailynn Hamersma (run) and Rio Landers (RBI). Sharing the pitching duties were Hamersma (2 innings), Brittany Van Tries (2 innings) and Alayna Meskill(1 inning).
Against, Dover-Eyota, Jamie Stevens and Haley Colton each had two hits against the Eagles. Colton added a run, RBI and two stolen bases, while Stevens had one stolen base. Stevens was the pitcher of record, going six innings for the Lady Bulldogs. Courtney Schmidt, Brittany Erding (RBI) and Shelby Erding (run) also had hits for the gals.
In game one against FC/L, Kailynn Hamersma broke up a FCL no-hitter with a single in the seventh inning. Jamie Stevens got a hit and drove in Hamersma for the only GMLOK run. Alayna Meskill pitched the entire seven innings for the Bulldogs. She struck out four and walked five.
In game two, Jamie Stevens went two-for-four and scored one run in the second game of the double-header. She was also on the mound, striking out six, walking five, while giving up seven hits. Also getting hits were Haley Colton, Jessi Lohuis and Hannah Corson. Runs were scored by Courtney Schmidt, Colton, Lohuis, and Stevens. Getting the runs-batted-in were Colton, B. Erding, S. Erding and Corson.
