Richard Swanson continued his fine cross-country running, winning the Chatfield Invitational ("The Shoe") in a time of 17:16.8. In the girls' race, eighth grader Erica Earley ran a great race on a tough course, finishing third with a time of 17:04.6.

"The kids ran fairly consistently on a tough course," said coach Amber Uhlenhake. "We had some individually good races, especially in Richard and Erica, but also Adam Buchholtz had a tremendous race stepping up a notch.

"We didn't pull through as strong in the team scores, but that's where our numbers come to hurt us," she added. "We just don't have the depth of Pine Island or Stewartville. We have one more regular season meet (at PEM, Tuesday), and then step up our game for conference and sections. We have some big goals to achieve, and we'll keep pulling things together to get up to where we need to be to finish strong."

The team winner of "The Shoe" is determined by adding the times of the five best boys and five best girls, which designated Chatfield as the 2012 winner. Also figuring in the time for Kingsland (203:45.0) were Melinda Woods (19:15.6), Ryan Swanson (19:41.8), Jocelyn Voeltz (20:22.4), Dane Gillespie (20:41.4), Tyler Kaster (21:38.4), Zachary Buchholtz (21:48.0), Jamie Thompson (22:00.8) and Audrey Farlinger (23:55.2). Adam Buchholtz had a time of 22:48.8 and Tomm Mettler came in at 22:54.6.

Running in the junior varsity race were Filip Swanson (24:49.9) and James Hayes-Hall (28:25.5).

Tuesday the team ran in the Plainview-Elgin-Millville meet, but results weren't available for this edition. The conference meet is going to be run in Eyota on Tuesday, Oct. 16, and then the section meet is Thursday, Oct. 25, in Rochester, at Northern Hills Golf Course.
