Threads Custom Apparel, formerly Chosen Valley Threads, of Chatfield has offered tuxedo rental services to the Chatfield area for over 10 years. Due to a change in tuxedo distributors and a concern regarding the ability to maintain good customer service in that area, Threads has decided to no longer offer tuxedo rental.
Owner Lisa Vaupel explained that she and her husband, Mat, took over ownership of Threads during the thick of prom season in 2012.
"It was a crash course in measuring, ordering and fitting tuxedos for the boys," she said. "Because of that experience we definitely wanted to improve and learn more about the process. We managed to double our rentals during the 2013 prom season and knew we still needed to learn more and wanted to improve."
That goal was achieved through the help of great customer support from Threads' former distributor. "We felt confident that it could only get better," Vaupel added.
However, Threads learned in early December that its local distributor was retiring and closing. All their customers were being transferred to a national distributor, located in another state.
"Because of those changes, we became concerned with our ability to continue to provide good customer service," Vaupel said. She noted that the two main tuxedo rental occasions for the store were homecoming and prom, both of which sometimes require a quick response time. With the new distributor, she was uncertain if those time constraints could be met.
"After a lot of thought and consideration we decided that we would no longer continue to provide this service," she said.
Threads will continue to offer custom apparel to southeastern Minnesota, much of which builds school and community spirit.
Because the apparel industry is continually changing, Vaupel said she is excited to focus her efforts on learning new things as well as to explore new opportunities within the store.
Threads is located at 203 Main Street South in Chatfield. It is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Tuesdays through Thursdays; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays and from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
