Paul, Corey and Lee Novotny are connecting people at Main St.

It's an effort to unwire people.

"Everybody's connected," said Lee, co-proprietor of the newly-opened Main Street Wireless, LLC, an authorized retailer of Verizon Wireless and formerly known as Magnum Wireless. The business, with its new name, is now operating the former Stevens Ford building at 20 Main Street in Chatfield.

Lee and his co-owners know cell phones and how they connect people to one another.

Lee, who also is Fillmore County's assistant attorney and operates a small law practice in Chatfield, explained last spring why he and his brothers decided to become owners of a Verizon retail shop.

"The reason we got interested in Verizon Wireless is because it's the predominant carrier in the area," he said. "Most people have it, and we wanted to bring quality service here. We wanted to be able to provide local options to subscribers instead of them having to drive to Rochester. We'll be able to provide more personal service than what a person might get from going to other stores."

He continued, "One of our goals has been to help Chatfield flourish and get more businesses here, to be one of the businesses here, and having the store here allows us to provide service from Verizon for local businesses and individuals."

The trio chose to relocate Magnum Wireless and rename it "Main Street Wireless" because, Lee stated, "We opened and then decided a better location might be on Main Street. Paul bought the Stevens Ford building, and that's where we decided to move. There's more exposure to people passing by, big windows, a larger space."

He reiterated the store is "a locally and privately owned, authorized Verizon retailer" and that he and his brothers aspire to provide cell phone service and sales to southeast Minnesota.

They will "keep our focus here," staying open late enough that people who work in Rochester may stop in after work to adjust their service plans, check out the newest phones and even pay their bills in person if they wish.

Customers will be welcomed by Chatfield resident Aaron Armstrong, who will be glad to assist.

Lee said, "We'll sell phones and set people up with their plans - we're not a corporate store - but we can help them upgrade their phones and get new everything."

The Novotnys are planning an open house once the weather stops being so tumultuous and unfriendly.

"We're looking forward to warmer weather and a grand opening...we're thinking sometime in March," Lee concluded.

Main Street Wireless is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
