Christian Bance(9th place, 17:02.1) and Karen Gomez(13th, 16:10.7) both medaled at the 42nd Annual Luther All-American Invitational Cross Country Meet last Saturday. This is one of the toughest meets that the Gophers will run in this year, with many of the top Iowa runners competing.

In the team competition, the guys were 11th of 16, and the girls were 17th of 17 teams. Other guys competing in the varsity meet; Justin Friedrich(18:13.7, 44th), Keagan Clarke(49th, 18:23.0), Nick Maki(19:10.6, 76th), Kevin Bradt(99th, 20:32.9), Anthony Voigt(102nd, 20:58.6) and Alex Lien(107th, 21:41.7).

Running in the JV meet, also 5000 meters, were Tim Hawkins(22:51.8) and Bennett Gathje(22:54.0). Running in the 3200m junior high race were Payton Guenther(13:54.0) and Josh Walsh(15:03.2).

Having personal bests(PR's) were Walsh, Guenther, Gathje, Voigt, Maki, Clarke and Bance.

Also competing in the girls varsity meet were Maddy Larrabee(18:50.9, 102nd), Abigail Paul(108th, 19:51.3), Haley Woltz(109th, 20:04.0) and Gracie Grant(111th, 20:41.7). Elizabeth Walsh(20:59.9) competed in the JV meet and Angela Voigt(16:52.5) ran in the junior high meet.

Gattje, in the boys JV meet, bettered his previous best time by over three minutes.

"The kids are coming along nicely, said Coach Chris Frye. We've got some nagging injuries, but we're making progress. I feel good about where we're headed", he concluded.

Hannah Friedrich and Cassidy Kloes, two of Chatfield's top female runners, did not compete at Luther.

Thursday the team runs in Pine Island.
