The Chatfield boys basketball team advanced to the next round of the playoffs against Plainview-Elgin-Millville, after defeating Winona Cotter, 65-49.
"We played well," said Coach Tom Bance, "especially in the second half. We got to the basket off the dribble very well and we played very good defense," he added. "Chatfield held a two point lead at halftime, 28-26, but outscored the Ramblers, 37-23, in the second half to get the 16 point win.
The Gophers had four players score in double-figures; Jake Peterson (13), Nate Skare (14), Jake Neis (12) and Jayme LaPlante (11).
Skare (6), LaPlante (5), and Josh Bernard(4) were the rebounding leaders. Jake Peterson had a fine floor game with seven assists.
With the win, Chatfield will now play PEM. This will be the third meeting between the two teams this season. Chatfield lost the first meeting, 85-51, but evened the 2011-12 series at 1-1 with a 53-51 win in February. The game is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, at the MCC Arena.
