Chatfield and La Crescent played the only game in Section 1AA last Friday night, with the Gophers coming out on top, 65-46. All other games in Class AA were postponed, due to inclement weather and poor road conditions.

The United States Post Office wasn't moving Friday night, but the Chatfield "post men" were. It was a big night for Chatfield's inside guys, as they pulled down 23 rebounds and scored 29 points. Jayme LaPlante recorded a double-double, 21 points and 11 boards, and Brandon Adler posted eight points and a dozen rebounds. In addition, each had two steals and a few assists.
The Chatfield scoring was distributed around to several players and very balanced. In addition to the inside play, the perimeter players came up with 32 points: 12 each for Christian Bance and Nate Skare and eight for Jake Neis. Zach Eggers and Tim Hawkins each had a bucket to round out the Gopher scoring.
"We played very well for the entire game," said coach Tom Bance. "We really made their 'star player' work for all his points. We also did a good job rebounding, which helped because we didn't shoot real well from the field."
The guys were 27 of 65 from the field, 41.5 percent, which isn't really too bad. Just eight of 23 from three-point range (34.8 percent) and only three of six, 50.0 percent, from the free throw line.
Christian Bance had a good floor game, coming up with six rebounds, four steals (team high) and three assists. He also shot pretty well, hitting four of eight from the field, including four of six from beyond the arc. Skare also had four three's, accounting for all of his points, and dished out three assists. Neis led the team with four "gifts" to his fellow players.
The win for Chatfield set up a re-match with Plainview-Elgin-Millville Tuesday night in the Section 1AA-East semi-finals. PEM won their quarter-final game over Cotter 79-75. The Bulldogs beat the Gophers, 69-59, in their only meeting during the regular season on Saturday, Jan. 25. The game was played after this edition went to press.
The winner plays in the championship game Saturday, 5 p.m., at Mayo Civic Auditorium. All four top seeds advanced with No. 1 Caledonia and No. 4 Lake City playing in the other bracket. PEM was the No. 2 seed and Chatfield No. 3.
