The Chatfield track and field teams competed in the Three Rivers Conference meet two Saturdays ago as they began to gear up for the all-important sub-section meet this Thursday.

The conference meet, held at Lewiston-Altura High School, resulted in a fourth place finish from the girls' team and a sixth place finish from the boys' team.

Autum Erickson and Ashley Baker earned early points for the lady Gophers in the 100-meter dash, finishing third and fifth, respectively. Erickson crossed the finish line in 13.22 seconds while Baker did so in 13.59 seconds. Baker also finished third in the 200-meter dash, just behind teammate Maddy Kammer, who finished second. Kammer and Baker completed the race in 27.53 and 28.15 seconds, respectively. Kammer also continued her dominance in the 400-meter dash, finishing in first place with a time of 1:00.60. In the 300-meter hurdles, Maddie Talamantes's time of 51.42 seconds was good enough for a third place finish.

In the distance events, Camille Rasmussen and Karen Gomez-Ruiz had a successful meet. Rasmussen placed fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:39.72. Gomez-Ruiz finished fourth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:53.56 and third in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:46.92.

The Gopher relay teams earned a first place finish in the 4x200-meter and a fourth place finish in the 4x400-meter. The 4x200 team, comprised of Erickson, Baker, Talamantes and Kammer, won the event with a time of 1:48.77. The 4x400-meter team finished with a time of 4:36.30 and consisted of Rasmussen, Talamantes, Megan Hopp and Nicole Peterson.

Finally, in the field events, senior Mikaela Bray finished fourth in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 8'.

On the boy's side of the meet, Jayme LaPlante led the Gophers, finishing first in both of the throwing events. He won the shot put with a throw of 51'3" and the discus with a throw of 167'9". Fellow thrower Julius Generla placed third in the shot put with a throw measured at 40'11".

In the running events, Jarrett Oakley earned a 10th place finish in the 200-meter dash, finishing with a time of 26.08 seconds. Anthony Voigt finished ninth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.29 and sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:17.40. The Gophers also had success in the distance events as Justin Friedrich finished ninth in the 1600-meter and Keagan Clarke finished eighth in the 3200-meter. Friedrich completed his race in 5:17.61 while Clarke finished his in 11:28.62.

The relay teams for the 4x200 and the 4x400 races earned third and fifth place, respectively. The 4x200 team consisted of Austin Swancutt, Alex Bradt, Kevin Bradt and Alex Haffner crossed the finish line in 1:39.88. Kevin Bradt, Swancutt, Parker Fossum and Haffner made up the 4x400 team that finished with a time of 3:51.16.

Chatfield also had a pair of impressive performances in the field events. In addition to the success in the throwing events, Oakley added a fifth place finish in the triple jump with a leap measured at 37'8". In the high jump, Fossum earned a seventh place finish, clearing the bar at 5'4".

The Gophers will be back in action on Thursday at the sub-section meet where they will hope to perform well enough to advance to section and earn state meet berths. The meet will be held at Chatfield High School.
