Chatfield won its fifth boys basketball game in a row as the Gophers downed Lewiston-Altura 79-42 Friday at home in a game that coach Tom Bance said all 16 players brought great intensity to the court.
Jake Neis gets a rebound for the Gophers over the outstretched arms of a Lewiston player.
"We played great defense throughout the game, but it was really important that we jumped on them early, to set the tone for the game," said Bance. "Christian Bance shot the ball very well and that opened up the inside for Jayme LaPlante and Brandon Adler."
Bance scored 25 points as he made nine of 12 from the field, including five of his seven three-point attempts. LaPlanted scored 13 and Adler nine inside.
Zach Eggers also scored nine points as 10 Gophers scored. T.J. Moeching had six, Jake Neis five, Drew Hurley four, Dan Narveson and Tommy Jech three each, and Ethan Woltz two points.
LaPlante had nine rebounds and Adler five to lead the team. Bance and Neis each had four while Woltz and Justin Friedrich each had three rebounds.
Bance and Neis each had three steals to lead the team while Hurley had a team-high six assists, followed by Adler and Neis with four each.
The Gophers were also scheduled to play Dover-Eyota Tuesday at home last week, but the game was postponed until Feb. 1 due to the extreme cold that closed school Tuesday.
This week, they were scheduled to travel to 7-1 Plainview-Elgin-Millville on Tuesday and then face 9-1 Caledonia at home on Thursday and 7-6 Rochester Lourdes at home on Friday. They continue the busy schedule next week, playing at undefeated Rushford-Peterson Monday, Jan. 20, at home against 5-7 Fillmore Central Tuesday and at home against 2-10 Southland Thursday.
