scored against Lewiston-Altura in Chatfield's 65-18 win in the 1AA East quarter-final game. With the win, the Lady Gopher's next opponent was Winona Cotter, a game played Monday evening in Rochester. 16 different girls had rebounds, eight different girls had steals on defense and eight different girls dished out assists. A real team win!
All 18 of the gals on the Gopher roster saw playing time in the game, many of them in the first half of play. Chatfield had a very comfortable 41-8 lead at the intermission. A layup by Maddie Talamantes with only four seconds off the clock set the 'tone' of the game early on. "A good start and the girls played with energy," said Coach Brian Baum. "I thought everyone played hard and well."
MaKenzie Miller led the scoring with 14 points, hitting seven of 10 shots for the night. Morgan Henry added seven points, and three players, Mariah Pederson, Karlee Moulton and Sidney Irish all tallied five points. Brook Irish was the rebounding leader with 10.
Kirsten Keefe led the team with four assists and Miller was tops in steals with three.
The gals hit 25 of 66, 37.9%, field goals, including a not-so-
impressive 2/13 (15.4%) from three-point range. They hit 56.5% (13/23) of their free throws.
Defensively, the team had seven blocked shots, two each for Traci McDonald and Brook Irish.
If the Gophers won their game against Cotter, they would play in the Sub-section championship game on Saturday, 11 a.m., against the Caledonia/Plainview-Elgin- Millville winner.
