The Chatfield girls basketball team lost their sub-section semi-final

game to Winona Cotter, 61-54, ending their season with a 19-8 record.

"It was a tough and frustrating loss," said Coach Brian Baum. "We

obviously didn't play well, or what we were capable of, but at the same time

Cotter played well and did what they had to do to get the win. Turnovers

killed us! We had around 25, which is way too many this time of the year.

I thought we were in good shape going into overtime, but for some reason

couldn't do anything with it (momentum). It's tough to have the season end

before you're ready, but hopefully this loss motivates our younger players

to get in the gym and shoot this off-season. We still do not shoot the ball

as well as we need to, or will need for next season. We will miss our six

seniors."

Those six seniors who ended their basketball careers at Chatfield are

Candace Gould, Kileigh Dudek, Traci McDonald, MaKenzie Miller, Karlee

Moulton and Sierra Johnson. "They were great leaders for us," said Coach

Baum, "on and off the floor, and overall, just great kids. We wish them the

best!"

In the loss MaKenzie Miller led the team with 21 points, hitting eight

of nine from the field and five of six at the free throw line. Miller

finished her h.s. career with a double-double, adding 10 rebounds to her

career finale.

Also in double-figures were Kirsten Keefe, 12, and Maddie Talamantes,

10. Keefe added five rebounds, four steals and seven assists to her game

stats. Talamantes also contributed four rebounds, two assists and one steal.

Sidney Irish finished the game with five points, four rebounds and three

assists.

Chatfield trailed 52-47 with just under one minute to play in

regulation time. Kirsten Keefe hit a three-pointer (:38) and Maddy Kammer

hit a pair of free throws (:13.5) to tie the game, and eventually send it

into overtime. Cotter won the overtime 9-2, and the game, 61-54.

Brook Irish, Camille Rasmussen and Maddy Kammer, each had two points, to round out the scoring for Chatfield.

Caledonia beat Cotter in the sub-section finals and will play Pine

Island for the Section 1AA championship. Spring Grove and Bethlehem Academy are playing for the single A championship.

Here's the Scoring and notes for RP regular season game, which we didn't

get in earlier....Kirsten Keefe 4, Sidney Irish 6, Camille Rasmussen 2, Maddie
