The Chatfield High School golf teams began their seasons last Tuesday in Caledonia at Ma Cal Golf Course. The par-36 course proved to be too much for the Gopher golfers as both the boys and girls squads fell to the more experienced Caledonia/Spring Grove teams.
On the girls' side, Chatfield was led by sophomore Paige Isensee, who shot a 56. Morgan Henry, the lone senior on coach Paul Wagner's girls' team, fired the next best round with a 59. The top four scores were rounded out by a pair of freshmen, Makara Fahrenholtz and Pamela Lisowski, who shot a 76 and an 86, respectively. Those scores combined to give the Gophers a cumulative score of 277, which was 53 strokes more than the victorious Warriors, who finished with 224.
The Gopher boys' team was paced by freshman Alex Hompe and sophomore Chris Hanson, who each penciled in 60s on their scorecards. Levi Roline, a junior, shot the next lowest round with at 71. The fourth qualifying score for Chatfield was recorded by eight-grader Cole Asleson, who shot a 73. Combined the Gopher team tallied 264 strokes, 73 shots more than the Warriors' 191.
The Gopher golfers were scheduled to continue their season this Monday at Harmony Golf Course as they take on the Fillmore Central Falcons, although the overnight snow may have postponed the meet, which was to take place after this edition went to press. On Thursday, Chatfield will host the Dover-Eyota Eagles as the Gophers look to defend their home course for the first time this season.
