The Chatfield Gophers scored in every stanza, enroute to a 41-6 win over Highway 52 rival, Fillmore Central.

The Gophers got on the 'board' first with a one yard run by sophomore Ryan Meeker in the first quarter, and kept the lead the entire game. Skare kicked the extra-point for a Chatfield 7-0 lead.

On Fillmore Central's next possession, Chatfield held on defense, but fumbled the punt to give the Falcons another chance. Fillmore Central took advantage of the Gopher's only turnover, scoring on a 46 yard touchdown pass. The extra-point was blocked, keeping the Gophers up by one, 7-6. Those were the only points Fillmore Central was going to score on the Chatfield defense.

Chatfield scored another touchdown in the first quarter, on an eight yard run by Justin Viss. The kick was good and the Gophers were up 14-6. Chatfield scored another touchdown in the second quarter on a Nate Skare pass to Reid Danielson for 15 yards and took a 21-6 lead into the intermission.

The Gophers got on the board twice in the third quarter; 26 yard pass interception by Jake Neis and a 10 yard run by Cody Bly. Both extra points were good and Chatfield had a commanding 35-6 lead after the third quarter.

Chatfield tacked on one more tally in the fourth quarter (40 yd. run by Alex Bradt) for a final score of 41-6. Nate Skare was a perfect 5/5 in extra-point kicks in the game.

Defensively, the Gophers were led in points by Jake Neis, with 26, aided by his 'pick 6.' Drew Hurley had an interception and 22 points, followed by Luke Isensee (16, sack), Jayme LaPlante (16, sack) and Michael Mabe (15, sack). Ben Pierce also had an interception in the game.

"It looked to me that the boys seemed like they were having a lot of fun out there Friday night," said Coach Jeff Johnson. "We'll need to clean a few things up before we go down to take on Caledonia (Friday night)," added Johnson, "and if we do, we have a very good chance of coming out of there with a win. We need to play a little more physical on the defensive side of the ball and continue to win the turnover ratio. If we do those things, I like our chances," he concluded.

Offensively, the Gophers got 130 yards from Jake Neis, on 12 carries. Ryan Meeker had 65 yards on nine carries. Alex Bradt picked up 57 yards on just three carries. Others with yardage were Cody Bly (3/14), Nate Skare (3/9), Justin Viss (2/13) and Ethan Wright (2/3).

Nate Skare hit four of 11 passes for 80 yards. Catching the passes were Jayme LaPlante (3/65) and Reid Danielson (1/15).

Special teams players: Nate Skare (punting, 4/47.3, a longest of 67 yards), Jake Neis (punt return), and Sawyer Prinsen (kickoffs, 7/48.5).

Friday night the Chatfield team will travel to Caledonia to take on the #1 rated Warriors. Chatfield has moved into the rankings, hitting the #10 spot last week.
