This is the eighth year for 'The Shoe,' and Kayla Woltz has won the girl's division for all six years that she has run in it. "I wanted to make sure that you knew," said Coach Chris Frye, "that this was Kayla's sixth straight Chatfield Invitational win. She's won it every year, seventh grade through her senior year. That's pretty amazing! I could tell that being her last time on this course, the race was very emotional for her. You can let that emotion sap you of energy, or give you added determination. She turned it into a positive and really went after it. She ran the fastest time she's ever run in this meet," added Frye. How you win the Chatfield Invitational Cross Country Meet was changed to a different format eight years ago, just to give the race, a different twist. The times for the top five girls and top five boys for each team are added up, and the winner with the lowest total time is declared the winner.

And for the fourth time in the last five years, Chatfield has won 'The Shoe.'

Individually, Kayla Woltz (15:25.6) and Karen Gomez (16:07.5) went one-two, for Chatfield, and overall, in the girls race, and Christian Bance (17:51.3, second overall) and Justin Friedrich (18:48.8, 6th overall) went one-two for the Chatfield boys team, getting the team off to a great start to win the trophy.

Also figuring in the overall time (189:09.5) for Chatfield were Hannah Friedrich (18:07.7, 13th), Mary Simpson (18:08.3, 14th), Haley Woltz (18:21.7, 16th), Keagan Clarke (19:05.7, 7th), Dan Narveson (21:31.2, 34th) and Alex Lien (21:41.7, 36th).

Also running for Chatfield were Tim Hawkins (21:44.2), Anthony Voigt (21:58.5), Maddy Larrabee (19:13.9), Elizabeth Walsh (20:46.3) and Gracie Grant (22:28.7).

Running in the junior high races were Angela Voigt (17:37.4, 9th), Nolan Salerno (15:34.0) and Bennett Gathje (15:48.8).

Next up for the Gophers is the PEM Invitational on Tues-day. This is the last race of the season before the 'championship races' begin; Confer-ence Meet, Section Meet and the State Meet.
