Thursday night the Chatfield Gophers downed Dover-Eyota, 3-1(23-25, 25-15, 25-16, 27-25) to win the 1AA East Sub-section crown, advancing them to the Section 1AA finals against Kasson-Mantorville. Saturday the gals left everything on the court, losing a 'heartbreaker' to the KoMets, 1-3(17-25, 25-20, 16-25, 26-28), bringing home the silver medals for second place in the Section.

In the loss to K-M, the gals were 85/87 in serve receive (SR) and 77/84 at the service line. The team had seven serving errors and seven ace serves. Leaders in SR were Alex Duxbury (23/23), Kirsten Keefe (18/18), Sheridan Salisbury (23/24), Maddie Talamantes (13/13), Megan LaPlante (3/3), Camille Rasmussen (2/2) and Maddy Kammer (3/4). Serving leaders were Sheridan Salisbury (14/14, 1 ace), Gabrielle Salisbury (22/23,2 aces), Kirsten Keefe (9/10), Camille Rasmussen (5/5), Maddie Talamantes (5/5), Maddy Kammer (9/11) and Alex Duxbury (13/16, 4 aces).

At the net, the Gophers were led by Brook Irish (12 kills, 4 ace blocks, .207 hitting), Sheridan Salisbury (11 kills, ½ ace block, .286 hitting, 2 ace blocks) and Kirsten Keefe (7 kills). Double-digit digs were recorded by Gabrielle Salisbury (19), Kirsten Keefe (16), Alex Duxbury (15) and Maddie Talamantes (12). Sheridan Salisbury, who played one of her best overall matches, came up with eight digs. Gabrielle Sailsbury had 36 of the team's 39 set assists, after a change in the Gopher offense.

Seniors Gabrielle Salisbury, Camille Rasmussen and Alex Duxbury played their last matches for the Gophers. Congratulations on great volleyball careers at Chatfield H.S., and best of luck in your future endeavors.

In the Sub-section championship win over Dover-Eyota, senior Alex Duxbury was a phenomenal 33/33, six aces, at the service line. She was also 14/15 in SR and came up with 14 digs on defense. Other servers were Gabrielle Salisbury (14/16, 3 aces), Maddy Kammer (6/7), Kirsten Keefe (12/12, 2 aces), Sheridan Salisbury (15/16, 3 aces), Camille Rasmussen (10/10, 1 ace) and Maddie Talamantes (9/9).

Kirsten Keefe led the SR corps, coming up with 23 of 23, followed by Maddie Talamantes (19/19), and Megan LaPlante (10/10).

Kirsten Keefe was tops in kills with 16 and hit .260. Maddy Kammer had a dozen kills and hit .229. Brooke Adler had six kills, while Brook Irish and Camille Rasmussen each had five. Gabrielle Salisbury (29) and Sheridan Salisbury (12) shared the set assists against the Eagles. The Gophers were really 'hot' at the net; Maddy Kammer had 5 ½ ace blocks, Camille Rasmussen had 2 ½ blocks and Brook Irish came up with two. Kirsten Keefe led the team with 21 digs, followed by Gabrielle Salisbury (19), Alex Duxbury (14) and Maddie Talamantes (11).

Chatfield finished their season with a 25-9 record (second in Section 1AA) and 10-1 in the Three Rivers Conference, also good for second place.

Volleyball note...senior Alex Duxbury has been selected to play in the Sixth Annual Tri-State Volleyball All-Star game. The 'series' will feature all-stars from Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin in a round-robin format. The All-star games will be held on Sunday, Nov. 17, at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, beginning at 11:15 a.m.
