Two weeks ago the Chatfield team qualified for the State Meet with a win over Kenyon- Wanamingo in the Section Championship match. That win over K-W qualified the Gophers for the State Meet, where they will take on Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg Thursday at 11 a.m. in the first round of the state team compe- tition. In the brackets present- ed by the Minnesota State High School League, KMS is listed as the #4 seed, and Chatfield is listed as the #5 seed. In the other half of Chatfield's brack- et, Jackson County Central (#1) will take on unseeded Barnesville. The winners will meet in the championship semi-finals, while the two los- ers will move into the consola- tion semi-finals, with the win- ner of that match moving into the consolation championship match.

All of the team wrestling will be completed on Thursday. Reports from all of Chatfield's matches on Thursday can be heard on KFIL-FM, 103.1.

In the Individual Tournament held this past weekend, Chatfield qualified eight wrestlers for the 'big dance.' Those advancing to the State Individual Meet, which will be contested on Friday and Saturday are as follows: includ- ed in parenthesis are our wrestlers first round opponents - Jacob Goldsmith, 106, Sophomore, 37-5 (Caleb Kreister, 8th grade, 33-5, Crosby-Ironton); Hank Friederichs, 120, sophomore, 42-1 (Tracer Lee, 9th grader, 30-6, Border West); A.J. Riley, 126, junior, 41-3 (Bryce Bruner, ninth grader, 25-6, Minneota); Harvey Friederichs, 132, junior, 41-2 (Tyler Berghuis, junior, 14-4, Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City); Alex Haffner, 138, junior, 39-2 (Rylee Anderson, sopho- more, 32-6, Barnesville); Ryan

Meeker, sophomore, 145, 30-12 (Paden Moore, Jackson County Central, sophomore, 35-5); Cody Bly, 170, junior, 37-4 (Aaron Bates, Sibley East, sen- ior, 38-2); and Justin Viss, sen- ior, 195, 32-7 (Tyler Olson, jun- ior, 27-8, Maple River).

Hank, Harvey and Justin were first place finishers at the Section Meet. Jared and Ryan were second place finishers, as were A.J., Alex and Cody, but the latter three had to win 'true second' matches to qualify for the State.

Also receiving medals Saturday night were Ty Van Sickel (8th grader, fourth place) and Jacob Bleess (junior, fifth place).

Not placing at the Section Tournament, but surely an important part of the Chatfield team were Ethan Wright (soph- omore, 152, 0-2), Austin Dahl (freshman, 160, 1-2), Sam Fryer (senior, 182, 1-2) and Logan Karver (sophomore, 285, 0-2).

All of the wrestlers on the Chatfield team, even those who didn't get to wrestle at 'Sections', have played an inte- gral role in the success of the Chatfield team, and the success of Chatfield's individual wrestlers.

Reports of the Individual Tournament, Friday and Saturday, can also be heard on KFIL-FM, beginning with the first match on Friday. We'll be giving live reports on all of the wrestlers in the KFIL listening area, which includes Chatfield, St. Charles, Fillmore Central/ Lanesboro/Mabel-Canton, Dover-Eyota, Stewartville, Grand Meadow/LeRoy- Ostrander/Kingsland, Caledonia/Houston/Spring Grove and Lewiston-Altura/ Rushford-Peterson.
