Chatfield had three runners at the State Meet this year; Kayla Woltz,

Karen Gomez and Christian Bance.

Coach Chris Frye summed things up pretty well...."Kayla finished in the

top 10 for the fifth straight year. That's a rare accomplishment. Runners

like her don't come along very often. She's had an amazing career. Aside

from her running ability, she set an outstanding example for dedication and

hard work. Achieving her level of excellence doesn't come without

sacrifice.

Karen follows in those footsteps, Frye continued. Her hard work paid

off with a second straight trip to State, and she had a strong race. I know

that with her level of dedication, she'll only get better. I'm glad that

we'll have her leadership, too, for the next two years.

Christian PR' at State, moving into the second spot on our honor roll.

A nice job at State in his 'rookie' year. He shows tremendous potential,

and it will be exciting to see where he can take this in the years ahead."

Kayla finished 10th in this year's meet, finishing the tough St. Olaf

course in a time of 14:59.8. The 10th place finish was the fifth straight

year that she has finished in the top 10 and her fifth straight year of

receiving All-State honors.

Karen had a good race and finished the 4,000 meters in 76th place,

15:58.7. 175 girls finished the race in Class A.

Individual winner was Clare Flanagan (14:04.1), Blake, her second

straight Class A crown. Esko was the team champion, 115 points, followed by

Annandale (150) and Minnehaha Academy (151). Dover-Eyota (184) was fifth

and Rochester Lourdes (206) was ninth. 16 teams, two from each Section,

participate in the State Meet.

Christian finished 73rd in the Meet, getting a personal best (PR) time

of 17:12.1. This is Christian's first year out for cross country, and

already has moved into the #2 spot on the Chatfield cross country 'honor

roll'. Matt Welch, Proctor, won the meet with a time of 15:34.0.
