Kayla Woltz (15:11.7) won the Three Rivers Conference 'gold medal' for the fifth consecutive year at the TRC Meet last week, and completed her 'TRC career' as a six-time All-Conference performer. She has won the meet every year since eighth grade and finished fourth as a seventh grader!

Also earning All-Confer-ence honors for the girls were Karen 'go-go' Gomez (4th, 16:10.5) and Mary Simpson (15th, 17:28.8).

Boys earning All-conference honors, finishing in the 'top 15' were Christian Bance (4th, 16:36.3) and Justin Friedrich (15th, 17:34.9).

"We had five all-conference runners," said Coach Chris Frye, "which ties a school record (twice before). All-conference were Kayla, Karen, Mary, Christian and Justin. The kids ran very well, added Frye. It took a strong team effort for theboys to achieve their goal of finishing no lower than third, in what we expected would be a very tight race. Christian and Justin did a great job in leading the boys.

Kayla ran with real authority in winning her fifth straight conference title. She just dominated! In also earning All-Conference, Karen ran a very smart race and Mary showed some real senior determination," Frye added.

Both the boys and girls finished third as teams. Team places for the boys; Plainview-Elgin-Millville (41), St. Charles (64), Chatfield (112), Lewiston-Altura/Rushford-Peterson (114), Dover-Eyota (114), Kingsland (115) and Wabasha-Kellogg (125). Grand Meadow/LeRoy-Ostrander/Southland ran three runners so did not have a team score.

Team scores for the girls; D-E (31), PEM (59), Chatfield (65), LARP (100), W-K (138) and Kingsland (148). St. Charles and GMLOS had incomplete teams.

Also running on the varsity girls team were Hannah Friedrich (20th, 18:01.6), Haley Woltz (27th, 18:43.2), Maddy Larrabee (29th, 19:00.9) and Elizabeth Walsh (35th, 20:36.7). Running in the JV race were Gracie Grant (22:16.5) and Angela Voigt (22:34.4).

Other varsity runners for the boys were Keagan Clarke (20th, 18:06.9), Dan Narveson (34th, 19:32.1), Kevin Bradt (41st, 19:54.4), Alex Lien (47th, 20:16.1) and Tim Hawkins (48th, 20:26.3). JV runners for the Gophers were Anthony Voigt (20:52.0, 19th) and Bennett Gathje (25:01.1).

Kayla and Mary are the only seniors on the Chatfield teams.

"I think that the team is ready for a good run at Sections," said Coach Frye. "Dover-Eyota and Lourdes are heavy favorites for the girls and Plainview-Elgin-Millville and (Winona) Cotter for the boys. But, we have a chance to advance several individuals to State." he concluded.

The top two teams advance and the top eight individuals, not on a team that is advancing, qualify for the State Meet. The Section Meet is this Thursday at Northern Hills GC, Rochester. The girls run at 4 p.m. and the boys meet is scheduled to start at 4:45 p.m. Go GOPHERS!
