Deloris (Dee) May Schroeder 89, of Chatfield, MN, passed away quietly surrounded by family on August 10, 2013 at St. Elizabeth¹s Healthcare Center in Wabasha, Minn., where she had been a resident for a short time.
Dee Schroeder was born May 15, 1924, in Racine, Minn., to Peter and Constance Lawson. She attended Stewartville High School and graduated in 1942.
She married Melvin C. Schroeder on December 6, 1942. To this union, six children were born, Terry, Trudy, Tom, Jon, Joan and Jeanne. He preceded her in death on December 20, 1993. She later married John (Jack) Hobart on May 22, 1999 in Oshkosh, Wisc. He preceded her in death on June 11, 2005.
She loved to spend her summers in Alma, Wisc., and lived most of her life in Chatfield, Minn. She wintered in Mercedes, Texas where she had many friends. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Chatfield.
Throughout her life she had many jobs in addition to being a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother.
One of her greatest accomplishments was becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1982, fulfilling a lifelong dream. She worked at St. Marys Hospital in neurology until retirement in 1994. She enjoyed sewing baby quilts, playing bridge, solving crossword puzzles, reading, fishing, and cooking big pancakes for her family.
Survivors include two sons, Terry Schroeder of Mercedes, Texas, Tom (Joni) Schroeder of Alexandria, Minn.; daughter -in-law Barbara (Jon) Schroeder of Chatfield, Minn.; three daughters, Trudy Smith of Santa Barbara, Calif., Joan (Mike) McCormick of Alma, Wisc., Jeanne Moorleghen of Lexington, Kentucky; two sister's Myrtle Tebay of Stewartville, Minn. and Ruth Goede, of Plainview, Minn.; one sister-in-law Harriet Lawson of Adams, Minn.; 22 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Melvin and Jack, son Jon and a great grandson Owen Schroeder; three brothers Harry, George, and Vern; and two sisters, Margaret, and Dorothy.
A Celebration of Dee¹s life will be held at a later date at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Chatfield with Rev. Preston Paul officiating. Memorials are preferred to St. Paul Lutheran School in Chatfield, Minn..
