Marjorie Ann Amy, 74, died Dec. 31, 2012, at her home in Chatfield,
surrounded by family.
Marjorie Ann Chmelik was born June 11, 1938, in Owatonna, to Rudolph and
Martha (Renchin) Chmelik.
Her family was her world. Her 11 sisters and brothers, her beloved
husband, Gaylon, her own six children, 19 grandchildren and one
great-grandchild were her delight and joy. She surrounded herself with their
photos and was always interested in and supportive of their activities and
She and Gaylon were high school sweethearts. They were married Jan. 16,
1958, in Faribault. Together they ran Gaylon's Plumbing and Heating. She was
also the proprietor of Crafts Plus in Chatfield. After her retirement, her
favorite "job" was caring for her youngest grandchildren. She was sad when
the cancer that eventually took her life made it difficult for her to be
fully present to her grandchildren.
She was able to balance her life as a savvy business woman and a
homemaker of the highest order. She will be remembered for her cooking and
gardening skills. There are still jars of goodness stored in the pantry;
peaches, pickles and jams.
She loved life. To that end she donated her body to the Mayo Clinic for
medical research; hopeful that this final gift will give life to others.
She is survived by her husband, Gaylon; children, Denise (Dick) Halloran
of Chatfield, Debra (Terry) Billman of Wisc., Danette (Kurt) Myers of
Arizona, Doreen Amy of Chatfield, Dorinda (Paul) Johnson of Chatfield, and
Dana (Molly Johnson) Amy of Chatfield; brothers and sisters, Herb (Patty)
Chmelik, Ruth Selvik, John (Diane) Chmelik, Mary Rother, Jean Forster, Betty
(Kenny) Gregor, Rudy (Rita) Chmelik, Marvin (Joanne) Chmelik, Martha Piepho
and Audrey (Eugene) Gehrke; 19 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, James Chmelik.
A Memorial service was held Thursday, Jan. 3, at Chatfield United
Memorials are preferred to Chatfield United Methodist Church.
