Paula A. Kolstad, 76, died on Friday, June 21, 2013, from a brief illness with cancer at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, Minn., where she had been a resident for three days.
Paula Ann Wurtzler was born on Jan. 29, 1937, to Paul and Mabel (Krueger) Wurtzler in Chatfield. She grew up in Chatfield, attended school there, graduating from Chatfield H.S. in 1955. Paula was married at Root Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Fountain, to Morris Kolstad. Following their marriage, the couple moved to rural Stewartville where they farmed for many years, raised their family, and have continued to make their home. She was a farmwife/homemaker and was employed at Rock Dell Meats in Rock Dell, and at IBM in Rochester for 15 years. Morris was a lifelong farmer and a self-employed truck driver and drove for many years at Rochester Sand and Gravel. Paula was a member of E. St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Rock Dell and she and her husband were members of the Root River Antique Historical Power Association. Paula will be remembered for her wonderful cooking and canning and her famous pickles. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, going to the casino, farm shows and going to restaurants with family and friends. She loved time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Paula is survived by her husband, Morris; two daughters and one son, Debbie Kolstad of Naples, Fla.; Susan (Todd) Sorenson of Minneapolis, and Steve (Selena) of Stewartville; three grandchildren, Andrea (Bryan) Bredesen, Melyssa Kolstad, and Keenan Kolstad and three great grandchildren, Matthew, Wyatt and Emily. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Kay Starken and Sandra Asleson.
The memorial service was held Saturday, June 29, at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville.
A private graveside service will be held at Root Prairie Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are preferred to Root Prairie Lutheran
