Virginia R. Trapp , 89, of Owatonna, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at the Cedarview Care Center.

Virginia R. Cooksey was born Sept. 12, 1923 in El Reno, Okla. the daughter of Earl and Iva Kate (Miller) Cooksey. She attended Riverside School and graduated from El Reno High School in 1941. She then worked several months at the local hospital. In 1942, she attended the University Hospital in Enid, Okla., for nurses training.

She met her future husband, Wayne Trapp, at a U.S.O. dance for servicemen. For a short time, she returned to El Reno and worked in an aircraft factory as a "Rosy the Riveter." Wayne and Virginia wrote letters daily. He proposed to her on a trip while visiting her family, and they were married April 19, 1943.

They lived in Enid for a year, then Wayne was transferred to Eagle Pass, Texas. After their son, Ronnie, was born, she went to Texas where they had a trailer on the base until Wayne was transferred to San Antonio.

Wayne was discharged and they moved to Minnesota and farmed for 12 years. When their children were in school she went to work for 10 years at the Fairview Nursing Home.

In 1980, she went back to school at Rochester Vo-Tech and took the LPN course. Due to health problems, she was unable to finish the LPN course, but did obtain a Certified Nursing Certificate. She again worked at Fairview Nursing Home and also gave home health care.

She served the community as a 4-H leader, on the church board, as an election judge, as a member of the Eastern Star, secretary and president of the Presbyterian Women's Group, and as a nurse's aid.

She is survived by her children, Lynda Trapp, of Owatonna, Susan (and John) Hanson, of Chatfield, Lester (and Karen), of Claremont, and Darryl, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; six grandchildren, Jenny Cooksey, of Owatonna, Amanda (and Joe) Uhler, of Rochester, Nancy Hanson, of Rochester, Wayne (and Anitra) Trapp, of Watertown, Cathryn (and Juan) Schnitzler, of Owatonna, and Krista (and Brent) Bulow, of Mantorville; seven great grandchildren; sister, Opal Bigelow of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne; son, Ronald; and sisters, Pauline Stuples and Joan Cooksey.

Funeral services wereheld Tuesday, Feb. 12, at First Presbyterian Church, Claremont, with the Rev. Dr. Joe Jones officiating. Interment will be held at a later date.

Memorials are preferred to the First Presbyterian Church, Claremont, or Owatonna Area Hospice.
