Wabasha-Kellogg hands Kingsland a season-ending loss
By Lori Metcalf

The Knights were at the Mayo Civic Arena last week to play the Wabasha-Kellogg Falcons for the sub-section championship. The Falcons are a team the Knights had beaten twice during the season already and had high-expectations that they would beat them a third time. Unfortunately, Kingsland wasn't able to come away with top-honors and the hard-fought match ended in a season-ending loss for the Knights, 23-25, 16-25, and 31-29.

Even with the loss, the Three Rivers Conference co-champions had an outstanding season.

"We ended our season 23-7 which is awesome," said coach Lisa Bicknese. "It's always disappointing to end your season with a loss but you can only end with a win if you make it to the state championship or the third place game." She went on to say, "This one was particularly hard because we had beaten them before. I know that we could have done it again but we just didn't seem ready to play right away. When we did come back it was too little, too late."

Hanna Losey led the team with 12 kills, one ace block, and two ace serves followed by Erin Bernard with seven kills and 10 digs, Amanda Tart with two kills, one ace block, 13 digs, and 12 for 12 serving. Kindra Hagan had 16 digs, Liz Bain had two kills, one ace serve, and 17 digs, Jade Schmidt had 19 set assists and was 14 for 14 serving with 13 digs, and Andrea Clement had two kills and five digs.

This was the last game for Erin Bernard, Liz Bain, Laci Lund, Bea Kloeckener, and Kine Jensen-Snippen. Coach Bicknese will miss her senior leaders as they go on to graduate this year and is also excited to see what next year will bring.

"It will definitely be hard to replace these seniors with all of the leadership, effort, and motivation they brought to the team," said Bicknese. The team gave their fans a lot of excitement during the season and, as always, it's tough to see the short volleyball season come to an end. But, for the many Kingsland fans and players it's time for a short break and then on to a great season of Knights basketball!
