Changes in area football schedules coming in 2015
Football scheduling will change once again in 2015 as the Minnesota State High School League Board of Directors recently adopted a plan that places all member schools with football programs into districts.

Coaches and players from the area will participate in the 41st annual Minnesota Football Coaches Association (MFCA) Tackle Cancer All-Star Football Game 1 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at Clemens Stadium on the campus of St. John's University at Collegeville.

Kingsland golfer find challenges at first state tournament last week
Kingsland golfer Karli Bly was one of 87 participants in last week's state golf meet, held at Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker, Minn. The two-day event had golfer's play two rounds at the 18-hole course, one each on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the winner claiming the individual state title.

Kingsland golfer advances to state meet
Kingsland golfer Karli Bly earned a spot in the state meet last Tuesday at the Section 1A meet held at Eastwood Golf Course in Rochester. Her round of 87 on the 18-hole course put her in third place out of 28 competitors, claiming one of the five slots to be filled for the individual state tournament.

Two from track team advance to section meet
The Kingsland track and field teams continued postseason competition last week, participating in the 1A Sub-section meet held at Chatfield High School on Thursday. Athletes placing in the top three or breaking the section standards in their respective events moved on to the section meet, which begins on Tuesday. For those who didn't meet those qualifications, their season would come to an end.

Granddaughter of local couple recognized for track honors
Augustana College senior Kyle Blakeslee's outstanding weekend at the Drake Relays earned her Northern Sun Intercollegiate (NSIC) women's track athlete of the week honors. Blakeslee helped the Vikings to a relay title then recorded an automatic qualifying time to finish her weekend at the Drake Relays.

Bulldogs put together win streak in softball
The GMLOK softball team put together a three-game winning streak this past week after rebounding from a loss to an imposing Wabasha-Kellogg team on Monday. That streak tripled the team's win total for the season as they look to build some momentum with postseason play approaching.

Golf teams have productive week with several victories
The Kingsland golf teams played in a trio of meets this past week, starting with an away meet against the Southland Rebels at Cedar River Country Club. They followed that with a pair of home meets at Root River Country Club, the first on Tuesday against Chatfield. The second home meet was a triangular that pitted the Knights against both Southland and Rushford-Peterson.

The GMLOK baseball team played four games this past week, and despite losing all four, the team was competitive against some tough opponents and might have come away with a couple of wins if not for some defensive lapses.

MSHSL makes change to allow more games during wet spring
Due to the wet weather with rain in most of Minnesota and even some snow forecast for earlier this week in the Arrowhead region, the Minnesota State High School League has decided to permit a relaxation of rules requiring complete seven-inning baseball and softball games.
